Abstract

Identifying the English language as having an international status in mind, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the characteristics or factors a language (any language) must exhibit in order to become a global language. The focus of the paper, however, will be on those characteristics rendering a language structurally simple. An argument that such characteristics represent the most important among all others to qualify a language as a candidate for a global role will follow..
